Today one of my loyal and honest students approached me and asked, "Mrs. KP, have you ever been so fed up with the drama that you just want to explode and scream I JUST CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!'" I responded, "Yes, honey... But you will learn in time ways to move passed it without exploding." She smiled. As she started to move on I reassured her with, "oh yeah, and welcome to the life of females. also known as drama!" She laughed, thanked me, and went on her merry way!
This instance gets me back to reflecting upon the question my Principal posed to me the other day, regarding whether I'd want to teach all girls or all boys next year, if they decide to make 6th grade single-gender.
I told him I enjoy teaching both, but the girls do have a lot of drama. However, the more I think about it, the more I lean to teaching all girls. Personally, in addition to being their teacher, I think I'd be a good role model and mentor for them. I can connect to 6th grade gira, because I used to be one!!! :)
Anyway, would you want to teach all boys ELA or all girls and why?...
Enjoy pondering this decision!

  4. I have asked myself this question many times. I have often thought middle school would be a much calmer educational environment should single gender classrooms be the norm. I enjoy teaching both boys and girls, but if I was asked I think I would choose to work with the boys, even though I'm a female. Here's the main reason, boys don't usually hold grudges. What's done is done and the next day its usually forgotten. Girls never forget anything and can be incredibly unforgiving.
